The 300 SEL 6.3 is a unique car to say the least. It was the fastest saloon in the 70’s, comparable to the E63s of today’s generation. It was initially a project build idea, where they had installed the large displacement V8 engine from the 600 pullman and took it out on the track, only to find out that it was putting in record breaking numbers. It then acted as the catalyst for the first ever AMG car, the “red pig”, which then dominated DTM racing in the mid-70s with its roaring 6.8-liter engine. It is a car for someone who knows their stuff and is not afraid to put down the power this car offers. Besides the impressive performance it offers, it is a staple of German engineering when it comes to its intricate and well-designed hydraulic suspension system, which was a flagship design for Mercedes back then.
